South Bend, Indiana – A 23-year-old man was arrested on Thursday afternoon after allegedly throwing a cat from the Mishawaka Avenue Bridge into the St. Joseph River.
The St. Joseph County Police Department announced the arrest of Ted Ballin and another person, Lily Browning, in a news release on Friday:
23-year-old Ted Ballin and 23-year-old Lily Browning have been arrested!
On Thursday afternoon, our Warrants Unit conducted a search in the 2600 block of W. Washington Street in South Bend for Ted Ballin. Ballin was wanted on Felony Bench Warrants for Animal Cruelty (allegedly throwing a cat off the Mishawaka Avenue Bridge into the St. Joseph River) and Robbery.
Ballin was found hiding in an attic and taken into custody without incident. The authorities said:
Additionally, Browning, although not having any active warrants, was arrested and preliminarily charged with Felony Assisting a Criminal and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
Both individuals were transported to the St. Joseph County Jail.

There are unconfirmed reports that the cat survived and made it out of the river.
