Connecticut – A fitness influencer by the name of Mike Gerchy has been defending himself after a damning video of him beating his family dog was released. The video reveals more than just disturbing footage of Gerchy attacking his dog – it shows a disaster waiting to happen.
The video starts with two young girls who are hugging and slapping a large breed dog. Anyone who knows dogs will view the footage with discomfort…knowing that it is dangerous for kids to be hugging the dog and putting their face in his personal space. The dog in the midst of the unwanted attention gives a warning growl to the two girls.
Shortly after the black dog growls, the family’s other dog hops off the couch and walks to the girls and the black dog. The girls fling their arms around the dog that walked over and it sounds like they say, “thank you,” just before the white and black dog attacks the first dog who was being slapped.
The girls scurry away and Gerchy rushes to the room and starts beating the white and black dog who had hopped off the couch.
After the video caused a deluge of reaction on social media, Gerchy defended himself on Instagram.
For anyone who knows dogs, this entire situation looks like a recipe for disaster with young kids who do not respect their dogs’ space, dramatic, dangerous dog fights in the midst of children, and an owner who beats his dog after the dog fight starts, rather than managing the situation responsibly from the start.

The Glastonbury Police Department has stated that they are investigating the situation.

Since Mr. Fitness posted the video to prove his story, I think it definitely back fired!!! I see 2 dogs both males and territorial breeds. I agree with everyone else, both dogs should be taken away rehomed, You should be fined for animal abuse and CLEARLY your kids need education on how to handle pets. You (Mr. Fitness) are an idiot for bringing a puppy into the home not thinking terriorty had been established by Stitch, jealously and protection would not come into play with this whole scenario. Disaster!!! I rescued a small terrior mix brought it home to my Standard poodle within 30 mins my Poodle was trying to rip its head off… I had to train them together and my 4yr old about boundaries in introducing the new dog. This took about 3 months before they actually started to bond together.

Please rehome the dogs (separately) and any other pets in the household immediately. Someone needs to teach the parents and the kids a good lesson! none of this is the fault of the dogs. The guy should have slapped the kids instead.

Both dogs should be removed from that household & rehomed separately from one another. The adults should be prohibited from owning, residing with, working with or caring for another dog for the remainder of their lives. The children should be required to take classes on animal care & welfare & basic dog training & behaviors. They should also be required to spend a few hours per weekend at their local shelter (under supervision) cleaning up & caring for the animals in the shelter. Clearly the adults have no idea how much danger they are putting that entire household in by treating their dogs this way, letting the children treat the dogs as seen in the video, leaving children & dogs unsupervised & for completely failing to take the situation seriously & understanding dog behavior. This is a ticking time bomb & unfortunately I think the cost is going to be far greater than what they’re expecting & not just monetary. Two beautiful dogs being totally mismanaged & mistreated.

teach your kids to respect Animals you inhuman, and you are not fit to be a Dog owner, or have kids, Dogs and Animals need to be rehomed … away from unfit parents

I feel we’re forgetting about the women! She’s just as much to blame as he is. HE just happened to try and stop the poor dogs from fighting! AND those BRATS need to be addressed as well – slapping the dog?!? WTF is that about? That kid needs a good slap!
