Bradford County, Florida – Last week, Bradford County Fire Rescue units responded to State Road 223 for a horse in distress inside a trailer. Emergency responders found an overheated horse desperately in need of prompt cooling.
In a social media post, the agency said:
Upon arrival, crews found the horse in significant distress and immediately began assisting the owner while additional resources were requested. Veterinarian Dr. Mike Ricker responded to the scene and provided emergency veterinary care and first aid to the animal.
Firefighters assisted with safely removing the horse from the trailer.
Thanking Dr. Ricker for his expertise and for providing passive cooling measures in an effort to reduce the horse’s distress.
It is unclear what transpired before emergency responders arrived to assist. Some commenters have speculated that the horse was down and unable to benefit from the trailer’s airflow, while others have stated that it was simply too hot to be transporting a horse.

The owner of that poor horse is a brainless sadist! That evil scumbag must pay!
I don’t even own a horse and I know a horse should never be in a trailer in this weather. Charge the owner with animal abuse and take his horse as he will do it again and again.

Someone please explain why and how we have so many moronic people walking around in our society!! All you true idiots who abuse animals in any way deserve no empathy or understanding for your own plight. I guess it’s just too damn hard to determine that if it’s too extremely hot and sweltering outside for yourself to be locked inside a metal trailer with little to no airflow and/or water, then it definitely would be for an animal. Then to fake surprise and anguish when the horse succumbs to the unbearable heat is pure malice and makes me want to puke. Thank God the horse lived after treatment! The person responsible should lose all animals in/at their residence and definitely monetarily payback ALL the emergency responders and vet who are the ones that literally saved the life of this horse.
Seems like conditions were too hot to consider transporting to start with. Shame on the owner for lacking common sense or for just being cruel.
Owner still needs to face consequences. Common sense should’ve prevailed. It’s too hot to transport anything in a metal container!!
Owner needs to lose custody of that horse and any other animals. They should also have to pay restitution to the vet, as well as make a donation to the fire department. This is pure negligence.
