Mission Viejo, California – In the early morning hours of April 10, a man was captured on video abandoning a puppy in the midst of “coyote country.” Mission Viejo Animal Services is now seeking help from the public to help identify the man responsible for driving to the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center and throwing the puppy through the closed shelter gate.
In a release, the agency said:
Surveillance footage shows the suspect exiting his vehicle and throwing the puppy through the closed shelter gate, leaving the animal alone and frightened in coyote country. The suspect then returned to his vehicle and drove away.
After being abandoned, the puppy, visibly distressed, made its way to the nearby urgent animal care facility, where it sought help at the front door. Staff described the situation as heartbreaking, noting the puppy appeared scared and disoriented but was fortunate to have found its way to safety.
The puppy is at the shelter facility and is receiving care. Despite the traumatic event, the puppy is reported to be “doing well.”
Mission Viejo Animal Services Investigators are actively working to identify the individual involved. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity of the suspect is urged to immediately contact Mission Viejo Animal Services at 949-470-3045 or animalservices@cityofmissionviejo.org.

Hopefully the worthless piece of garbage gets to experience what it’s like to be unwanted to discarded. Fortunately it seems that the puppy is healthy and was smart to go to the door. We now can hope that much brighter days are ahead filled with care and compassion in a forever home.

They won’t do anything to him, even if they catch him. I am just glad he didn’t dump this puppy in a hundred other horrible ways, it may seem really bad what he did, but we all know the numerous other ways people dispose of animals. At least this puppy has a happy ending. Again, this is why these Shelters need to get rid of owner surrender fees. Or start a program like they have for babies people don’t want, they can take to any fire station, no questions asked. Do this with animals…
And provide affordable, high-volume spay/neuter services everywhere so that people can get their pets “fixed” in a timely manner and avoid them having or making accidental, unintended litters that there just are not enough willing, financially stable homes for.
