Brisbane, California – This month, police in Brisbane rescued a young, malnourished sea lion who was on a roadway. According to the Brisbane Police Department, an off-duty officer spotted the young sea lion wandering near Sierra Point Parkway by the DoubleTree Hotel.
In a release, the department said, “he observed the animal crossing the roadway and heading toward the northbound Highway 101 on-ramp. Concerned for the safety of both the seal and motorists, the officer used his personal vehicle to help slow traffic and contacted Brisbane Police Department personnel for assistance.”

Additional officers with the Brisbane Police Department responded to the scene and assisted in keeping the young sea lion safe until personnel from The Marine Mammal Center arrived.
Rescue personnel had been searching for the misguided pup for several days after it was spotted near Coyote Point and surrounding shoreline areas. The department said:
“The young seal was determined to be malnourished and in need of urgent care. The Marine Mammal Center transported the animal to their veterinary hospital where it will receive treatment and rehabilitation, with the goal of being released back into its natural environment.”
Adding a special reminder:
“If you encounter marine wildlife in distress, please do not attempt to handle, feed, move, or approach the animal yourself. Wild marine mammals can become stressed, injured, or unpredictable when approached by the public – causing safety concerns for both the animal and humans. Instead, maintain a safe distance of at least 50 yards and contact trained professionals at The Marine Mammal Center at 415-289-SEAL (7325).”
