Long Island, NY – Investigators have ruled out arson as the reason for the devastating fire that killed at least 100 cats and Chris Arsenault, the owner/founder of the Happy Cat Sanctuary, on March 31. According to the Brookhaven Fire Marshal, the cause of the deadly blaze is officially “undetermined.”
Brookhaven Fire Marshal Chris Mehrmann said:
“Cannot rule out a fire caused by propane-fed portable heaters that were in the area of fire origin.”
Investigators determined the fire spread because of holes that were cut into the walls and flooring for the cats.
Fire officials had been working with Arsenault to address various code violations at the sanctuary. Approximately 300 cats lived at the sanctuary before the deadly fire broke out.

That’s misleading.
It’s undecided. I’m certain with an independent investigation the decision will be arson. The town of Brookhaven had a long standing history of bullying Chris, so I would not trust an investigation by the officials there.
Considering the amount of threats and harassment which Chris Arsenault had been continuously subjected to by the haters within the community, I find it disturbingly ironic how his sanctuary could just randomly go up in flames. Something is amiss and this fire needs to be investigated more thoroughly.
Fire Marshal Chris Mehmann…get your head out of your a-hole and do your job!
All these sanctuaries that are burning down or getting broken into… I think they should have someone spending the night just to keep an eye on things
