Update! Snickers was rescued but he is sick. Please read more at this link.
Houston, TX – A badly neglected dog who appears to have never known what it means to be loved, is scheduled to die if he is not pulled from Houston’s BARC Animal Shelter by Monday, October 16.
Snickers was surrendered to the facility in September. His body reveals that he never received proper care…he has overgrown nails, he is underweight, and his skin is in poor condition.
Despite living a life devoid of love and care, Snickers has maintained a sweet and affectionate demeanor. A volunteer writes, “Sweet Snickers is breaking my damn heart. He was sitting in his kennel so patiently, waiting for me to take him out while I took out all of his kennel neighbors. Each time I walked by him, he was sitting, pleading with his eyes, wagging his tail. With those ears and those eyes, I couldn’t leave the shelter without spending time with him.”
Shelter notes from shortly after he was surrendered tell a similar story, “Approaching kennel Snickers is sitting at the front with head bowed and wagging tail. When I started petting him he started wiggling his whole body but kept all four on the floor. Was licking my hands and face and had soft eyes, and loose body language. Appears friendly.”
But Snickers does not have time on his side. Will he ever know what it means to be loved and cared for? Will he know the joy of snuggling with his person? Or sleeping on a soft bed with his favorite toy?
Or will he just take a final walk down a lonely hallway to a room where his sad life will be ended? Time is not on the two-year-old dog’s side. He must have a “hold” by 1 p.m. on Monday, October 16 or he will be put down – unwanted and unloved.
