Mason County, WA – Over the weekend, a disturbing case of animal cruelty was discovered at a rural property in Mason County. According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, over 60 dogs were found on the property near Grapeview; several dogs were in critical condition.
As reported by King 5 News, one living horse, and one dead horse, were also found on the property. The terrible situation was discovered after a neighbor spotted an emaciated Labrador retriever who was too weak to stand.
Several dogs are in “critical” condition and urgently in need of veterinary care. One of the dogs had duct-tape around the snout. A woman, who has had animal cruelty violations in the past, was arrested; she released custody of the animals.
One horse and 59 dogs remain on the property. Deputies are providing them with care until animal shelters and rescue groups can be found to take them all in. After the animals have been vetted and rehabilitated, they will be made available for adoption.
The woman’s identity has not been publicly released.
