Mountain Park, GA – The discovery of a badly burned possum in the City of Mountain Park has prompted the offering of a reward. As reported by Fox 5 News, someone set the opossum on fire, but the cruel act did not kill her.
The possum, dubbed Phoenix, was taken in by Lucky’s Place Where Wildlife Matters. The agency introduced Facebook followers to Phoenix on February 17, writing:
Following up with more information a few days later:
The outpouring of concern for our burned opposum has been overwhelming . It is so awesome to have so many people come together out of concern for this little girl. She definitely deserves it!!
Some have expressed concern about her pain level. To be clear, her fur is singed everywhere which isn’t painful. Her face and ears have some burns. She is being given pain medication and being treated with prescription cream. She is very active and eating very well. If at any time during her recovery she seems to be in distress she will go to the vet immediately.
In an effort to find the person responsible, a $1400 reward has been offered.
