Greenville, SC – A blind, special-needs kitten is in need of a new home after her prior owner inexplicably left her on the steps of the Greenville Humane Society in a box. The animal welfare society said the kitten, previously known as Elena, originally came to the shelter when she was just three months of age; the runt of the litter was “absolutely terrified” at the facility because of her blindness.
But Elena was eventually adopted but months later, she was left with no explanation. The shelter writes:
Months went by and in late July, a box was left on our front steps. It was Elena. We don’t know why she was brought back to us. Why she was left. She was so confused. She didn’t know where she was. And we did everything we could to make her comfortable. Once she was settled in her kennel, we were able to do a full exam. She was still completely blind.
Not only is the kitten blind but she was also diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, a condition that means she has fluid on her brain. Despite her challenges, she is proving herself to be a mighty survivor. The shelter said, “We renamed her Mabel, because she’s no longer that scared, blind baby we used to know. She’s strong. She’s learning her way around Cattery. She’s bonding with the other cats, and they are teaching her how to be confident.”
Now Mabel needs a new home – with someone who will never let her down again.
The shelter has provided information for those interested in adopting.

Note: Mabel will require once-a-day medication for her Hydrocephalus for the rest of her life. We expect the cost to be around $25 per month. But she is completely worth it. She has so much love to give, and she deserves to find a family that will give her love in return.
