Wesley Chapel, NC – A horse who got spooked in a storm wound up in a pool and required a team of rescuers to get her out. The 1,200-pound horse, named Lexie, was stuck in a 6-foot-deep pool and she had been in there for hours when the Wesley Chapel Fire Department received the call for help on Sunday.
According to the fire department, the Cabarrus County Large Animal Rescue Task Force, including the Midland Fire and Rescue and Georgeville Fire Department, worked hand-in-hand to get Lexie out of the pool.
It took three hours to get Lexie out of the water; the team used a mechanical advantage rope system, pulling her out of the pool on a large slide board. Crews then used a tow truck and large animal straps to stand Lexie upright.
A veterinarian was standing by to examine Lexie after she was freed.
Great work to everyone involved!
