Medina County, Ohio – On the morning of August 23, Trooper John Kronander found a puppy who was abandoned at a rest stop along Interstate 71 in Medina County. The Ohio State Highway Patrol posted video footage of the encounter on Tuesday, writing:
During a morning rest area check, Trooper Kronander discovered an abandoned puppy inside a crate along I-71 in Medina County.
Video captured the encounter, showing a playful pup who is grateful to be out of the cage he was left in. The trooper played a bit with the pup and then gently transferred him to the patrol car for transport to the Medina County SPCA.
Currently there are no leads in this case. Ohio law prohibits owners and keepers from abandoning a dog, cat or other domestic animal. Under Ohio Revised Code §959.01, abandonment is a criminal offense punishable as a second-degree misdemeanor for a first offense and a first-degree misdemeanor for subsequent offenses.
