Henderson, Nevada – On August 31, the City of Henderson Animal Protection Services announced the rescue of 21 Sphynx cats from an “unfit” breeder running the Sin City Sphynx operation. According to KTNV, the breeding license was pulled from the operator, Shanti Cloonan.
After being rescued, five of the seized Sphynx died from severe infections and six dead cats were reportedly found in a freezer at the breeder’s home.
In a public release, the City of Henderson said:
The City was awarded custody of the cats after the court determined the breeder was unfit to retain ownership.
Many of the cats suffered from illnesses and abnormalities linked to unethical breeding practices. The cats are receiving care and treatment through APS and adoption or rescue opportunities will be announced once they are healthy and ready for placement.
