Henderson, Nevada – On August 31, the City of Henderson Animal Protection Services announced the rescue of 21 Sphynx cats from an “unfit” breeder running the Sin City Sphynx operation. According to KTNV, the breeding license was pulled from the operator, Shanti Cloonan.
After being rescued, five of the seized Sphynx died from severe infections and six dead cats were reportedly found in a freezer at the breeder’s home.
In a public release, the City of Henderson said:
The City was awarded custody of the cats after the court determined the breeder was unfit to retain ownership.
Many of the cats suffered from illnesses and abnormalities linked to unethical breeding practices. The cats are receiving care and treatment through APS and adoption or rescue opportunities will be announced once they are healthy and ready for placement.

Another reason why breeding animals should be illegal. There are thousands of cats that die in the shelter system each year because there aren’t enough homes.
seize all property remotely used in the operation including vehicles. Fines and jail time. Use proceeds from sale to support spay/neuter programs. Fine the licensing agency for not intervening sooner.
The individual responsible for the suffering and deaths of these cats needs to be held accountable for this cruelty. They need to be locked up for as long as possible so as not to be able to do it to another innocent animal.
Another piece of garbage that abuses animals in order to cheat others and gouge them for exorbitant fees for badly bred sick animals. It’s a crime against the cats and the families that would love them.
We need to put these damn breeders out of business. There’s no excuse for what they did to those cats. They suffered and died horrible deaths. I need to close them down and not allow any more licenses. This is ridiculous. There’s too many stories about these breeders that turned into hoarders, and the animals suffer. As other said it’s money, driven the least amount of care the better in their eyes because it takes from their bottom line. put them on the list for no contact with animals. They don’t deserve a second chance.
