Prince William County, Virginia – A 900-pound pony who fell through a canvas cover, into a full pool, was rescued earlier this month by firefighters with the Prince William Fire & Rescue System. According to the agency, the pony wandered to the pool area during the night and walked onto the canvas-covered pool before falling in.

The Little Fork Volunteer Fire and Rescue was dispatched to assist with the large rescue animal effort and with the aid of Little Fork’s Chief Doug Monaco, a retired member of the Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue, firefighters constructed a ramp to aid the horse in exiting the water. The agency recounted what happened next, writing:
Two rescuers outfitted in dry suits went into the water, placing heavy-duty straps/slings around the horse’s belly and chest. Once the horse was in position on the ramp, additional personnel, above ground, pulled ropes that effectively hoisted the horse up and out of the pool.

The horse was examined for injury and appeared to be in good condition:
