Caroline, Alberta (Canada) – A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for killing a magnificent wild stallion in Alberta. The horse, known as Grey Hawk, was found deceased on July 1.
Initially, his cause of death was a mystery because he appeared to be healthy and there were no visible signs of injury. On July 1, the Help Alberta Wildies Society Facebook group wrote:
A colleague photographer took these images of Grey Hawk at 4:00pm today (July 1, 2026). There are no obvious injuries that would explain the cause of death. Tomorrow, we will turn him over and then load him. We will also try to get a blood sample. At this point there is nothing more than speculation to go on. We will attempt to find out what happened.
When the horse was turned over, it became clear that someone had killed him. On July 2, the advocacy group said:
We attended the site of Grey Hawk today. The mystery is no longer a mystery. He was shot.
We have made a police report to the Sundre RCMP Detachment and also Sundre Fish and Wildlife. HAWS is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of this perpetrator.
Police File# … 2026925914.
We moved Grey Hawk to a place where he is not visible to the public and will feed other local animals.
On Friday, it was announced that the reward had climbed to $20,000 to help bring Grey Hawk’s killer to justice:
Our good friend and supporter has matched the HAWS reward which is now at $20,000.
