Chilpancingo, Mexico – The former director of the Zoochilpan Zoo in Chilpancingo is under investigation for killing four of the zoo’s pygmy goats and serving them at a year-end party AT the zoo. As reported by CBS News, José Rubén Nava, who was replaced as the zoo’s director on Jan. 12, is believed to be responsible for multiple zoo animals being sold off or killed.
Fernando Ruiz Gutierrez, the state environment department’s director of wildlife, claims that Nava had four male pygmy goats from the zoo killed and then served them at a banquet. Gutierrez said:
“These four animals were slaughtered and cooked on the zoo’s premises, and were served as food at the year-end party. This put the health of the people who ate them at risk, because these animals were not fit for human consumption.”
He is also being investigated for trafficking animals from the zoo. Read the entire news release outlining the allegations against the former zoo director at this link.
