Lake Mead, Nevada – Rescue teams are searching Lake Mead for a missing veterinarian who disappeared after a damning video began circulating on social media. The video shows Las Vegas veterinarian Dr. Shawn Frehner kicking a colt in the head at the property of Shawna Gonzalez.
Gonzalez tells KTLA News,
“I heard [my mother] yell, ‘Oh my God. He just kicked him,’” recounting what she said to her mother, ““Oh my god, Mom, he’s choking,” she said. “He wrapped the horse around his neck three times, and he kicked him in the head.”
Gonzalez claims Dr. Frehner left her property before the colt got up off the ground – the incident was disturbing enough for Gonzalez to file charges with the police.
After the video began circulating online. Dr. Frehner released a statement, writing in part:
“I did not blatantly haul off and kick this horse as it appears in the video. That was not my intention at all,” Frehner wrote. “It was done simply to get the horse in a better position so that he could breathe and get up and move so I could again try to anesthetize.” Before acknowledging that he did indeed kick the horse. He said, “But yes I did kick him right in the chin and I very much do apologize and wish this never happened.”
Now, the disgraced veterinarian is missing, and the authorities are focused on Lake Mead. Multiple agencies are participating in the search, which started after Frehner disappeared on April 6. The National Park Service has requested tips from the public.
Family and friends of the veterinarian have turned to social media to condemn those who have lashed out at the veterinarian while asking for prayers for those who love the missing man.
Thanks for reading! We appreciate you.

Are you serious? Video of the jerk kicking that beautiful horse and strangling him and “simply to get the horse in a better position”. Why can’t people see the true disfunction of this man. Of course he is going to deny it, his gig is up! He gets big bucks to hurt animals. He probably couldn’t stand the thought of people knowing his sick ways. All his patients wondering if something like this was happening to their animals.
Sorry his family and friends can turn a blind eye to his methods but everyone else is smart enough to know, his conscious got to him and he decided this was the only way!
Sorry, I don’t see how you can justify in any way shape or form kicking in animal in the head for whatever reason. The veterinarian knew what he did was wrong and that’s why he disappeared so he’s guilty of abuse. He should not be around animals and have his license removed.!
To those who are defending this so called veterinarian eff off ! He deserves what he gets, he’s a SATANTIST any God Fearing person wouldn’t abuse and potentially kill an innocent creature of God !
Agree. Why would any idiot defend this monster who is supposed to be the guardian of animals for blatant cruelty. The coward is in hiding.
I would like to know if the horse is ok, and whether or not he sustained any injuries (permanent or otherwise). That so called vet should be stripped of his licence and banned from having any contact with any animals EVER.
There is absolutely no excuse for this. His license should be pulled and he should never be allowed near an animal again. Stop defending inexcusable behavior- family or not. He is the real animal here. I hope everyone knows his name far and wide and never brings their pet to him.
Oh well. Karma
He’s obviously adept at hurting animals and for once got caught on camera. His vet license should be revoked- and he should pay renumeration towards the trauma he has caused the pet and its owner.,
I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was young. What put me off was the vivisection. I Iater met two other peopIe who dropped out because of the crueIty in the Iaboratories. It’s unnecessary, unIess the purpose is desensitization.
So, a veterinarian who is strongIy independent and humane-minded is most IikeIy a rarity, I wouId imagine. That’s why I have aIways carefuIIy observed, and insisted on being with my animaIs for any procedures short of surgery. If I get a bad impression , I keep searching, and in the meantime try to stay away from veterinarians as much as possible.
It would be delightful news if he drowned slowly somewhere!! That would be awesome karma. That’s what I’ll pray for tonight! And I don’t even bother to pray, if there was a god, people like this wouldn’t exist.
