Riverside, California – Someone has been cruelly targeting wild donkeys who roam Reche Canyon and now a $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible. The person(s) behind the cruel attacks has left nearly two dozen donkeys with gruesome injuries – most of the attacked donkeys had to be humanely euthanized because the injuries were so severe.
Aiko Zane, a director at Donkeyland, tells ABC 7 News:
“It’s horrible to have to hear that there’s attacks almost happening every weekend now, and it’s devastating. There’s been 21 attacks, and there’s only been three survivors. As a donkey lover and an animal lover, it’s just absolutely heart-wrenching to have to see this.”
The attacks have been happening for the past six to seven months, but have recently escalated, with 13 attacks already happening in 2026. Donkeys have been shot with arrows, severely mutilated, and at least one was beheaded.

Whomever committed these acts needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and sentenced to the maximum, with any additional counts to be served CONSECUTIVELY rather than concurrently. They need lifetime restrictions on weapons, mandatory mental health counseling, a lifetime ban on animal possession (if they’ll do this to wild animals what would/could they do to their own) and lastly, lifetime placement on an Animal Abuser Registry!

Heartbreaking. There is a growing number of senseless atrocities like this committed every day. The monsters must be severely punished — the existing laws for “cruelty to animals” are a joke — or the trend toward more crimes against other animals will continue to climb. I’m a peaceful woman, but killing the culprits would be an honor.
Donkeys are sweet and gentle. I hope the scum that are doing this get what they deserve! And if they are using dogs to do this, I hope they face charges for abuse of the dogs, as well.
