Resourceful Officer Entices Man’s Dog To Help With Daring Ice Rescue

Grand Traverse County, Michigan – A resourceful police officer was able to entice a dog into helping him save a 65-year-old man who fell through the ice covering Arbutus Lake in East Bay Township. The daring rescue footage was posted to the Twitter (X) account for MSP Seventh District and it shows MSP Motor Carrier Officer Kammeron Bennetts enlisting the help of a dog named Ruby to save the man in the frigid lake.

Officer Bennetts can be heard calling Ruby over to him and the obedient dog promptly runs across the ice. The officer places a rope with a bright orange disc around the dog’s neck and he asks her owner to call her back.

Thanks to Ruby’s willingness to come when called, the man in the water was able to grab hold of the rescue disc, allowing the officer to pull him out of the water and across the ice to safety.

As reported by CBS News, the man was in the water for 16 minutes, but he did not suffer any significant injury from the frigid water, and he was able to go home after being examined at a hospital.

Great job Ruby and Officer Bennetts!
