Police Dog Saved After Inexplicably Jumping From 75-Foot Bridge

Brevard County, FL – A deputy with quick reflexes saved her K-9 partner from serious injury or possibly death after the dog inexplicably jumped over the side of a 75-foot bridge on top of the 528 Causeway.

The dog, Zeppelin, was on a lead after assisting K-9 Deputy Lauren Donaldson with an arrest. For reasons unknown, the dog pulls to the guardrail and leaps over, seemingly realizing the error of his ways at the last moment (video shows his front paws clinging to the bridge deck).

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office recounts the harrowing rescue:

Thankfully, Lauren responded quickly to “Zeppelin’s” actions by tightly holding on to his lead, immediately bracing her feet against the railing, and then somehow, reaching over the guard rail and pulling “Zeppelin” back onto the bridge!! Lauren’s rescue of her beloved partner is even more amazing when you consider that “Zeppelin,” a Belgian Malinois weighs approximately 75 pounds and Lauren weighs 122 pounds when she is soaking wet and holding a bowling ball, yet somehow she managed to not panic and pull “Zeppelin” back to safety!!

Sheriff Wayne Ivey writes:

Lauren and “Zeppelin” are two time reigning champions in the “Hardest Hitting K-9” category of the Space Coast K-9 Competition and I could not be more proud of Lauren for all she does as a member of our team and to protect our community!! I’m still mad at “Zeppelin” for giving us all a huge scare, but am so grateful that he is okay and unharmed!!

  1. The majority of Police K9s are routinely terrorized, tortured and brutalized during ongoing “training,” so it looks like Zeppelin was desperately attempting so escape from that miserable existence, regardless of any “good” relationship he might have with officer Lauren. If anyone doesn’t believe this, try asking your local K9 using law enforcement dept. to hold their regular training sessions out in the open for public viewing.

    • It appears the K9 was desperateIy trying to make an escape.

I worked in law enforcment, and know that the military and paramilitary have a dirty secret when it comes to their K9 units. The dogs that they call “partners” and “fellow officers” in pubIic are referred to behind the scenes as “tools” and “equipment,” and are treated abominably.

In addition to kicking. punching, electroshocking, choking, dragging, “helicopterting,” and slamming to the ground, one of their favorite “corrections” is slow hanging the dogs to unconsciousness. If there is a misjudgement in timing during the strangulation, you’ve got a dead dog instead of an unconscious one. Many K9s die of heat prostration, and that is also covered up and lied about.

There is so much more, but links are not allowed here. If you’d like further information, inquire at Stop K9 Torture, as I have many links to articles and videos to share.

      • Unfortunately, if the handlers complied with a request to hold training sessions publicly, the sessions would be laundered and squeaky clean presentations, but the handlers wouId still carry on with their cruel nasty business behind closed doors or at a remote location.

        • Yes I realize they’d still cover up the real sessions, but it’d probably take too much work/time to have the real sessions AND stage the fake ones, so they wouldn’t even do that. But just asking the chief of police or whomever would sure get a telling reaction…they’d never agree to anything honest and open. I just meant that maybe people who still believe the PR stunts should try it.
