Nunavut territory, Canada – On August 9, the Nasittuq Corporation issued a release about the death of an employee who was attacked by two polar bears on August 8.
According to the news release, the employee was fatally mauled while working at one of the logistic corporation’s work locations on Brevoort Island, Nunavut. The corporate release states that “Nasittuq employees responded to the scene and one of the animals was put down.”
The identity of the employee is not being publicly released. The corporation said:
The safety and well-being of our employees is our highest priority, and we are deeply committed to ensuring a safe working environment. We are working closely with local authorities and regulatory agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
Out of respect for the privacy of the family, we are not releasing the name of the individual at this time. On behalf of the family, we ask for understanding and privacy as we work through this tragic situation.
