Warren, Ohio – The heatwave impacting large swaths of the nation is taking a deadly toll, especially for those unable to escape the heat. This week, a chained dog, provided with no shelter from the sun, perished as the temperature climbed near the century mark in Warren, Ohio.
The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project’s Humane Division, alongside Animal Control for the City of Warren, OH, and the Trumbull County Sheriff Department responded to a residence on Central Parkway SE after learning of a chained dog who was pacing and in distress. By the time that help arrived, the dog was on the ground and unresponsive.
The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project said, “the dog’s internal temperature at the time was OVER 109 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT!” Adding, “The dog had no access to shelter, shade or water and was deemed deceased at the scene.”
An investigation is underway and criminal charges ARE expected.
Keep dogs cool by providing plenty of fresh water and shade, limit exercise during the hottest parts of the day, and never leave them in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. Dogs with heatstroke may exhibit excessive panting, drooling, bright red gums, vomiting, weakness, confusion, collapse, or seizures, and require immediate veterinary care.

That is So Awful. RIP Baby Boy. First of all Any Dog that has a Short Snout, has trouble Breathing when it’s Hot. They Need to be kept in Climate Controlled Areas and Never Left Out in the Heat. Certain Breeds Will Die in Certain Conditions, and quicker. When you get a Pet, Learn about the Breed, Lear about what they can and can’t handle. Obviously, No Dog should be out in the Heat with No Shelter and No Water.. and No Animals should be left in Hot Vehicles..even when the AC is running. AC can Fail. I wish people would Wake Up and Start Taking Care of their Pets. They are Your Fur Babies and Your Family. Treat Them Like They Are That and We Will All Be Able to Sleep At Nite. God Bless All The Morons Who Need To Get a Brain. And God Bless All the Pets that Need Help With The Morons. I would have the Pet Owner Charged and to Never be Left with a Pet to take care of.
