Sacramento County, CA – A 41-year-old woman is accused of slashing a dog’s throat and throwing the dog, who was still alive, into the trash. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Danielle Killian had two dogs and a cat and she “felt her life would be easier if she only had to care for one dog.”
Deputies and the Sacramento County Animal Control responded to an apartment complex on the 4000 block of Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael after someone found the injured dog in the trash.
In a release, the authorities said:
Sheriff’s Property Crimes Detectives arrived on scene and learned from Killian that she felt her life would be easier if she only had to care for one dog and cut one of the dog’s throats on October 14. While the dog was still alive, she placed it in a shopping bag and disposed of it in the garbage bin at her apartment complex on October 15.
Killian was arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail. She was granted release on her own recognizance by the courts and has since been released from custody.
Investigators found the knife that is believed to have been used in the crime inside Killian’s apartment. They did not find her cat and fear that other animals in her care may have suffered at her hands.
The dog found in the trash was taken to a veterinarian for care. The dog’s condition has not been released.
