Cedartown, Georgia – Days ago, police entered the pasture where a donkey named HeeHaw lived. Tragically, the officers believed the donkey posed a threat and fatally shot him after first using a taser.
HeeHaw’s owner, Hannah Israel, created a Facebook post about her donkey’s death, explaining:
At 12:45 am cops entered my pasture searching for a missing person WITHOUT permission or warning and shot and killed my bottle raised baby donkey.
They claimed he ran up to them braying and they thought they were in danger and shot and killed him after trying to taze him.
Adding:
HeeHaw was raised in the house and did petting zoos he never knew a stranger. And was shot and killed in his OWN pasture for doing what donkeys do. Alerting to a stranger. There is no way this is legal! I will be taking legal action.
Following HeeHaw’s death, the Cedartown Police Department released a statement about the incident:
STATEMENT FROM THE CITY OF CEDARTOWN
The Cedartown Police Department is aware that a city police officer shot and killed a donkey in the early hours of Sunday morning. A Cedartown police officer was on the scene after being called by Polk County Police to assist with a nighttime search for a missing child. The child had not been found at of the time of the shooting. Thankfully, the child was later located at a church near the pasture where the donkey was killed. The Cedartown Police Department has turned over the investigation of the animal shooting to the Georgia Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement Division for investigation and placed the officer involved on paid administrative leave while this investigation is ongoing.

Honest to god, what a coward!! Police just do whatever they like and suffer no consequences. It’s time to realize they are pretty ordinary and not gods, and if they’re too cowardly to face a tiny donkey then they shouldn’t be on a police force. They’re not helping us.

I’ve read posts like this over and over again where cops shoot and kill innocent dogs, cats, horses, you name it. I believe there is some mental illness going on with cops today. If they truly believe a bottle-fed baby donkey poses a threat, they should not be officers. Cops today are stupid beyond belief. The government must seek out the bottom of the barrel when they hire these loose cannons. Pets are being slaughtered for no reason, and I believe this family should sue the police department. It’s not enough to reprimand the idiot, they need to hold a trial, and sentence the dumb shit before he shoots a kid.

I find it hard to believe that armed men feel threatened every time they come across an animal that doesn’t just stand there, non reactive, when an unknown person enters their space. Especially pets and other domestic animals. Seems to me that it’s just easier to kill the poor animal rather than get assistance from the owner. This happens far too often and it should not be brushed aside as “it’s only an animal.

The police officers were trespassing on private property and both of them should be fired and face lawsuits and never allowed to wear a badge again. Although some police officers are good people some of them assume they are allowed to do anything without facing consequences.
