Wake County, North Carolina – A 57-year-old woman has been arrested and is facing charges following the discovery of 19 neglected Chihuahua at her Wake County home. According to sources, Sharon Lynn McDonald is facing 10 counts of animal cruelty and is scheduled for court on November 23, 2026.
Animal Services Director Jennifer Federico tells WRAL News, the home was in “poor condition” when the dogs were discovered. Many of the dogs were taken in by Longleaf Animal Rescue, which posted about their condition on social media:
Many need significant dental work. They need vaccines, bloodwork, spays and neuters, preventatives, food, supplies and everything that comes with giving neglected animals a fresh start.
Jessica Gibson, who is fostering two of the rescued dogs, tells CBS News, “I bathed them as soon as they came in yesterday. The bathwater was literally yellow they were gross the other one had urine caked on him a lot of skin issues because they were just so dirty.”
You can follow Longleaf Animal Rescue on Facebook to find the various ways to assist with this rescue effort.
McDonald is out on a $10,000 bond. All of the rescued dogs are recovering in foster homes.
