Orange City, Florida – Dozens of dogs have been rescued from a bad situation in Orange City. A total of 41 dogs were surrendered from their owner after an animal control officer found them living in a “detached, air-conditioned garage” at a residence on Ohio Avenue.
Halifax Humane Society is caring for the dogs and explains how the situation spiraled out of control for the person who previously owned them:
The owner started out with good intentions, helping a friend who needed to rehome two dogs. Without the ability to pay for veterinary care, vaccinations, or spaying and neutering, the situation became out of control.
On November 12, the animal welfare agency said the dogs are being cared for, and receiving veterinary treatment at the shelter:
Most of the dogs are in good spirits. Many are malnourished, suffering from flea infestations and skin infections. Tonight the dogs are all being examined by our veterinary team, provided any immediate treatments needed, and will each have soft beds, nourishing food, and a quiet, caring place to start their road to recovery and new homes.

As reported by Fox Orlando, the prior owner of the dogs is not expected to face criminal charges, with the authorities citing a lack of probable cause.
