Carrier Mills, Illinois – Police in Carrier Mills have arrested a woman who they say abandoned three dogs during a heatwave, causing their deaths. According to the Carrier Mills Police Department, 34-year-old Katherine L. Hodges is facing a felony count of Obstructing Justice, and 3 Misdemeanor counts of Animal Cruelty for allegedly abandoning three dogs during a July heatwave.
In a public release, the authorities said:
The charges alleged Hodges was responsible for 3 dogs who were abandoned and left to fend for themselves during a heatwave in July. Unfortunately, all 3 dogs perished. Hodges is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The accused has responded to the allegations on the police department’s Facebook page. In a comment, she claims to have secured someone to care for the dogs while she was unable to.
