Gaston County, North Carolina – Earlier this week, someone abandoned a litter of puppies in a Gastonia cul-de-sac. According to the Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement agency, the puppies were abandoned in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the end of Archie Road off of Bethany Road in Gastonia.
Whoever dumped the puppies left a small bag of food, but no water despite the extreme heat plaguing the region. A container, believed to be what the puppies were transported in, was also left in the area.
The agency hopes to learn more about the puppies, writing, “If you recognize these dogs, please contact 704-866-3300 in regards to case #2026–00056467.”
Because the puppies were abandoned rather than surrendered, they are unable to participate in one of the shelter’s largest adoption events. The agency explains, “WHY THIS MATTERS!!! These pups will have to sit out of the largest adoption events we have without the owner surrendering them to the shelter.
We have had one anonymous tip that was too vague to get anywhere so far. THESE PUPS ARE VERY RECOGNIZABLE. PLEASE CALL WITH ANY INFORMATION THAT WILL LEAD US TO THE OWNER AND AN OWNER SURRENDER.”

It is absolutely heartbreaking to see humans be so cruel. What kind of POS can abandon innocent, helpless animals? And above all that, in this sweltering HEAT!!! It literally blows my mind at the amount of abuse and cruelty in this world. We need stricter laws and enforcement for these habitual abusers so they are never able to own another animal again!! I hope they find the assholes responsible and they’re charged to the fullest extent!!

It makes absolutely no sense that you have to wait for an animal surrender. If the poor animals were abandoned in this heat with no water or food; does anyone actually think for one second that whoever did this to them cares about them at all or has any respect for the lives of other living beings? Some of these laws are so ridiculous that it makes no sense at all! These poor animals need to be given a chance at a better life. We need to start doing better for animals and thinking a lot less of those idiots causing all their suffering. Forget finding these people for an animal surrender and find them to lock them up for their cruelty before they get a chance to do it again.

I am sure there are cameras lthroughout the cul-de-sac that would show something. DUH!!! Law enforcement needs to start doing their jobs before more innocent victims are traumatized or even killed.

i agree… these dogs needs to be able to be in that adoption event…. they are in need just like all the others….. so what they was not surrendered… that should not matter in the least….
I want to scream from the roof tops! People do not take their animals to surrender anymore because all the shelters charge for owner surrenders, before when it was free these kind of cases were very low. Now, people have no money or choose to spend it on a Taco or Grits, then pay the shelters. The shelters need to make it free again, or do what they have for firestations for human babeis to be surrendered. Do it for dogs. No questions asked. But the shelter acts like they are the victim, siting rules not laws as an excuse not to place them. I am just glad they were found. and while I’m at it, there needs to be free spay and neuter, they say oh we have low cost s/n and then they charge 80.00 or more, that is too much.
Well, the rules are stupid about them not being allowed at the adoption event because they weren’t “officially” surrendered. But how about taking them to the event and putting up a sign beside them saying “these puppies were ABANDONED AT (and give the address) so we are allowing them to take part in this event. If you can show us proof that these puppies are actually yours and give us details of how they happened to be where they were found, we will consider allowing them to be returned to you.”
Why on earth would you want to return them to whoever ABANDONED them?????????
They could have died from the heat or been attacked by wildlife; whoever just LEFT them is a piece of shit.
