St. Louis, MO – A Missouri-based animal rescue is fighting to save a grievously injured dog who was found by a good Samaritan earlier this week. The dog, dubbed Spartacus, was found tethered to a St. Louis dumpster – part of his face was ripped away and he had bite wounds over most of his lower body.
The woman removed him from the dumpster, took him home and made him comfortable, and reached out to Stray Rescue of St. Louis, who has taken him under its wing.
Yesterday, the rescue group updated social media followers with information about the dog’s progress and condition:
Medical Update on Spartacus:
We firmly believe he is the victim of dog-fighting, based on the severity and quantity of his wounds. When he came to us, our Veterinarian believed these wounds were 5-7 days old, and festering with infection. He was left tied to a dumpster.
His jaw is not broken, the skin was pulled away and ripped off. He still has his jaw and tongue, even though it is hard to see – especially in the original rescue video. What we’re looking at here is the bottom of his jaw.
Adding:
When Spartacus first came in, his kidney enzymes were high, but they are back to a normal level after receiving fluids and we can start him on anti-inflammatory.
In case you missed it, his legs are not broken either – just very swollen from bites and infection.
The rescue group is doing all it can to help this dog recover. You can lend them a hand by making a financial donation towards his veterinary care. Donations can be made here.
