The Week Before Christmas, Shelter Volunteers Plead For Dogs To Spend Holiday In A Home, Not A Trash Bag

Fort Worth, TX – On Thursday morning, a somber plea was posted to Facebook about unwanted dogs at the Fort Worth Animal Care facility. Volunteers who work tirelessly to network and promote the unwanted shelter animals write of the tragic situation:

It’s the week before Christmas and the shelter has taken in 227 animals since Sunday. Yes you read that correctly! This is so sad and makes us so mad! The staff has been doing everything they can not to euthanize before the holidays but the public is not helping! 🤬

Over 220 animals taken in during the past four days – a staggering number of unwanted pets whose lives are hanging in the balance.

Code Red Animals of FWACC writes of the urgent need for adopters and foster homes:

We need adopters, fosters and rescues to help. I know everyone is full but these babies deserve to spend their holiday in a home not a trash bag.

There is nothing wrong with these pets – they have simply been failed by the people who should have been committed to them for the entirety of their lives. Each and every one of these pets wants to live – they want to be loved, and be cared for. Please network the animals at the shelter with the hope that they will find their way to a home for the holidays, instead of a trash bag.

If your organization wishes to tag an animal for rescue:
An email must be sent to FWACCTAG@fortworthtexas.gov by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on the day is it scheduled to be euthanized, and must include the following information:

  • Organization name
  • Requestor name
  • Animal identification number (“A” number)

Note: All inquiries about these dogs must be made directly to the shelter. Please do not contact Animal Victory with any questions as we are not affiliated with the shelter or the dogs.

  1. This is such a tragedy that could be avoided if people would stay committed to keeping their pets and not dumpling them when it gets inconvenient!! Pets are a life long commitment, through thick and thin.

  2. Be careful with these precious animals….sometimes a shelter is much safer than a home….there are many many many evil psychopaths in this world and it scares me that so many shelters are pushing to adopt!
