Garland, TX – A squirrel is recovering after having a zip-tie removed from his neck. The squirrel’s head was horribly swollen by the time he was found and rescued by Garland Animal Services officers. The agency said:
Officer Martinez with Garland Animal Services recently responded to a call at Pink Coffee near Buckingham and Shiloh, where a squirrel was found with a zip tie tightly fastened around its neck.
Thanks to our quick response and immediate veterinary care, the zip tie was safely removed, and the squirrel is now recovering at a local rescue group. 🐿❤️
The squirrel is safe but would have died if help had not arrived in time. Now, the animal control agency wants to know who is responsible for the apparent act of cruelty. The department writes:
Here’s the thing, we will not tolerate cruelty toward ANY animal in Garland wild or domestic. This incident is serious, and we need your help.
• Have you seen anything unusual in the area?
• How do you think a zip tie might have ended up around the squirrel’s neck?
• Was it an accident?
• Did someone do this on purpose?
