Dane County, Wisconsin – Approximately 20 activists were arrested last week after breaking into Ridglan Farms and freeing dozens of dogs from the large-scale beagle breeding facility. According to reports, upwards of 60 activists broke into the Town of Blue Mounds facility where beagles are bred for research.
Approximately 31 beagles were freed from their cages and removed from the property. Unconfirmed reports state that 23 of the dogs were taken to an undisclosed location, with eight being returned to the facility. In a statement, Ridglan said they intend to press charges against those who participated in the break-in.
Ridglan historically operated as both a large-scale commercial breeder of beagles for the biomedical research industry and a licensed research facility, supplying thousands of dogs to pharmaceutical companies, universities, and contract testing laboratories while also conducting a smaller portion of studies on-site under veterinary supervision. The facility has long been part of the upstream pipeline for animal research in the United States, specializing in breeding dogs with consistent genetics and health profiles for use in safety testing and other experiments.
Ridglan Farms has been under ongoing scrutiny for concerning conditions at their facility. To avoid facing criminal charges, they agreed to surrender their breeding license by July 1, 2026, but they will still be able to do research on the dogs on site.

Freeing animals subjected to abuse justifies breaking in. Those who are a part of facilities like this need to be put in cages and subjected to the same testing and abuse. No innocent animal deserves this. It’s not why they are on this planet. Thank you to those who did what they could to free these dogs. Those pups deserve so much more from this cruel world.

I read one time the reason that beagles are used in experiments is because they are so docile . Isn’t that sad the sweetest dog she will ever meet and they’re abused and tortured because they won’t fight back ! Anyone who could do this to a loving beagle has a black heart

Those activists are HEROS! This breeding/research facility is being forced to shut down their breeding program in order to avoid criminal charges, but the people trying to save the dogs are criminals? Make that make sense. With the advanced technology they have today, it’s been my understanding that animal experimentation isn’t necessary. There are programs that can run simulations of some sort. I’m a lay person & don’t understand it, but I do understand that no matter how many experiments are run, no matter how many drugs are developed, you will never defeat death.
These brave rescuers deserve a medal for their honesty not a jail sentence. Backwards punishment, the experimenters should be the ones jailed.
