Jasper County, Mississippi – Another Rhesus monkey has been shot and killed following a crash last week along Interstate 59, outside of Heidelberg, Mississippi. On Sunday, a mom who was worried for her children’s safety shot an escaped monkey near her home, and officials have said that a second monkey was killed on Monday in an area just a mile from where the crash occurred.
On the day of the wreck, 21 monkeys were being transported and eight escaped from the trailer they were being hauled in. Five of the eight were killed by the local authorities and three ran away.
According to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP), one monkey remains on the loose. Initial reports stated that the monkeys were infected with diseases, but officials later clarified the monkeys were disease free. However, the monkeys are said to be aggressive, and people are urged to stay away from them.
Residents are asked to report any credible sightings to 1-800-BE-SMART.

She may have done that monkey a favor, even if it wasn’t her intention. The monkeys were being transported from one torture chamber to another. If the vivisector demons had caught the monkey, that’s a fate worse than death. And being Ioose in a strange environment that is not it’s naturaI habitat, and with no other monkeys around, that wouId probabIy be a sIow death, too.

Animals deserve so much better in this world than to share it with humans. This entire situation was handled so poorly, but it shouldn’t be surprising considering the region of the country where it occurred.
