Ogden, UT – More than 150 dogs have been rescued from a hoarder’s home in Ogden. According to the Ogden City Police Department, officers responded to a complaint of possible animal cruelty at a home in the 3000 block of Jefferson Avenue in Ogden on April 15 and found 152 dogs living in squalor.
The authorities said the dogs were found in “extremely poor and overcrowded conditions” and called in additional support from Weber County Animal Services, Roy Animal Services, and Draper Animal Services because of the large-scale rescue operation.
All of the dogs were safely removed from the residence, and they are currently receiving veterinary care, evaluations, and shelter support.
According to KSLTV News, the person who owns the home has known mental health issues and nearly the same number of dogs were rescued from his residence in 2012. The man was not charged in 2012 but he did go to counseling.
Weber County Animal Services, who took in the seized dogs, issued a release stating:
Weber County Animal Services is working with Ogden City Animal Control to provide safe accommodations for the animals in the hording investigation. Ogden City Police Department’s press release details the number of animals and the conditions. The animals are currently at the Weber County Animal Shelter in kennels in spare rooms, separate from the other animals in our care to prevent the spread of possible diseases. We are currently working with rescue groups and partners at other animal shelters to provide medical care and possible relocation for these animals.
