Not A Single Application In Over 6 Years For Cat Surrendered By Owner Battling Cancer

Maryland – A cat surrendered over six years ago has not received a single adoption application. As reported by Newsweek, Hera’s owner surrendered her to the Chesapeake Feline Association in June 2017 and she has been overlooked ever since.

The shelter manager tells Newsweek:

“Despite her gentle and timid nature, Hera often remains overlooked. This sweet cat finds comfort in the company of docile and kind-hearted feline friends, and her heart seeks a tranquil environment where she can truly shine.”

Hera may be the longest resident at the no-kill agency, but she is not alone – several other cats are in the same boat—no applications interest.

@chesapeakefeline

You can show these overlooked cats some love by sharing their stories and getting some much-needed attention to them. You can find the adoptable cats at this facility by clicking this Petfinder link.

(Of note, the shelter has acknowledged that Hera was never added to Petfinder. You can still apply to adopt her at this link.)

All inquiries about Hera or the other cats must be made to the shelter. Animal Victory is not the point of contact and has no affiliation with the cats or this facility. Thank you.

  1. Not a surprise there have been no applications. Post her on Petfinder like you should in order to maximize her opportunities to find a forever home.

      • … yes, and directly below that, it says this: “Of note, the shelter has acknowledged that Hera was never added to Petfinder.” That’s crazy. ALL the adoptable animals should be visible on their Petfinder account as well as all their social media accounts. I pray this kitty finds the purrfect match indoor only home for her!

  2. No need to be so cold about it, Jan. If the shelter has a FB page they can put the baby on there. Not everybody uses Pet Finder to find their next pet. If I lived nearby I would gladly give this baby a new home.

    • Oh please Cindy go get her. She deserves a happy home and if you have a spot for her, you will be a happy family and she will be a happy cat.

    • There are always volunteers who do transport for kitties needing to get from A to B. I’ve done many kitty transports in Missouri, Iowa and Kansas where I live. Contact the shelter in Maryland where Hera is (info in the post above), express your interest in adopting Hera, tell them where you are and ask if they know of any volunteer transporters or another rescue organization that may be able to help. Be persistent in this, shelters and rescues are so busy and often overwhelmed with so many kitties needing help. Ask about their adoption fees and if they are willing to an out of state adoption. What state are you in? Pets get transported across the country, so it’s not an impossible thing. Stories like Hera’s break my heart, for both her owner and for her. This sweet shy girl needs a safe, loving home where she can relax and bond with her new person or family. Be sure to tell the shelter about your home and lifestyle so they can be sure it’s a good fit for both of you. I hope this will work out.

    • Shelter staff should man up and adopt her and take action instead of whining about it.
I once rescued 33 colony cat on my own as they were going to be killed and guess where they live, yep, my house (and I was in a rental). If I can live with and socialise 33 feral cats who turned into sweet gentle souls (most of them lol), this shelter should take action and adopt her period!

    • Shelter staff or volunteers should adopt her. No rocket science here.
I had 33 colony cats living with me once who I looked after on my own. They should man up and stop whining and take action like I did.
If Herra was in New South Wales Australia, I would have adopted her.

  5. Petfinder never worked for me. When I was in rescue I would post them and then I could never find my own posts. total waste of a website. Find a different one, Petfinder is awful. No wonder you have had them that long. Even Craigslist did better then Petfinder.

  6. I’ve adopted/helped others adopt via Petfinder over the years, but I can imagine it varies by region and awareness of the website’s existence. In the end though, any and all exposure is good and NECESSARY exposure for these unfairly unseen souls.

  7. Surely to hell after all this exposure here and people saying they would adopt if they could and given many ways to do it no matter how far away there is someone out there who can step up and adopt this poor cat. More action and less talk is needed here. Live in Canada so it is impossible for me but there is no excuse for one of you living in the States to act on this. C’mon people help this little cat out and give her a home

  8. I’m shocked that nobody in the whole of America has bothered to help this little one. I’m in Australia with 12 rescued street cats (I once had 33 but they’ve since passed away).
This really pisses me off. How selfish are people that they can’t open their heart and home to her, but then so many people want purebreds from breeders, but don’t start me on that.

  9. Food for thought. Why can’t one of the shelter staff or volunteers adopt Herra in this situation???
You would think that one of them would put their hand up and step in.
If I could have 33 rescues (on my own)like I did some years ago, they should adopt Herra and stop whining.
