Pelham, AL – An Alabama man is facing charges after severely injuring his own dog with sheep shears. As reported by WVTM News, Edgar Woods inflicted horrible injuries on his dog, Freeze, while attempting to groom the pup with shears.
Freeze was left bloodied and injured after the botched grooming session. Paige Burnett was on a video call with her friend when she saw Freeze and his horrific injuries. Burnett told the news agency, “She let the dog in which made a mess everywhere, put the dog in its crate where he profusely bleeding. In my opinion, I thought he was going to just bleed out right there. She had me on Facetime and that’s when I just hung up and called the police.”
One of the responding officers was able to wrap Freeze’s leg to stem the blood flow – the Labradoodle was transported to an emergency veterinarian for care. Burnett said, “He did lose half his ear and the gashes on his body were really deep, like through muscle deep.”
Veterinary expenses climbed to $20,000 for Freeze; he was removed from his owner’s custody and will be available for adoption at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society after he recovers.
Woods has been ordered to pay restitution for the veterinary expenses.
