Bella Coola, British Columbia – Eleven people were injured on Thursday during an elementary school outing on a trail near Hwy. 20. According to sources, a grizzly bear attacked children and teachers from Acwsalcta School who were on a walk in the remote area.
The Nuxalk Nation Chief and Council Facebook page immediately issued a warning via social media:
ATTENTION
There has been a bear incident near 4 Mile. For the safety of all, please stay indoors, off the highway near the administration office, and off all trails.
First responders are on site along with healers. Please stay clear as they do their work.

The attack left two people with critical injuries and two with serious injuries. Two people had to be airlifted for medical care.
The bear responsible for the attack has not been found. Residents in the area are urged to exercise caution and stay indoors if possible.

Why would any teacher take a class out to a remote area where there are likely wild animals?????????????????????????????????
was a well used trail by people right in town and near the school. these were all locals and First Nations people used to living with Grizzlies around. it is a tiny remote community.

If it was a trail in a remote area, then it’s the bear’s turf and should be respected.
Exactly. don’t kill the bear. rehome him far away into the the forest where he should be. with other wild animals
