Rigby, Idaho – A family who took in and raised a seemingly orphaned fawn found themselves heartbroken after Idaho Fish & Game officials euthanized the young deer. As reported by East Idaho News, a man spotted a tiny fawn on the road while traveling to work in June.
Camille Ramage, the man’s daughter, tells the news agency, “It was like a newborn baby deer, like maybe that day or a few days after it was born.” The man waited for over an hour, hoping that the fawn and its mother would reunite, but the mother never returned.
Rather than leaving the baby by the road where it might be struck by a car, he took it home and his family cared for it for the next four months. The family intended to return the fawn to the wild after it was old enough and stronger. But everything changed when someone reported the fawn’s presence via a tip to the Fish & Game’s Citizens Against Poaching hotline.
Spencer Wesche, a regional conservation officer with Idaho Fish and Game, tells the news agency why the fawn was taken and killed, “When they’re small and little, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to pose any sort of threat to you. But deer have really sharp hooves, and if it’s a buck, it will grow antlers. And as they get older, they start seeking out humans and have those interactions. They do start to show signs of aggression and can really do some damage.”
Wesche recommends calling wildlife officials for assistance if someone spots a fawn who could be in a dangerous place:
“The sooner that we know about something, where it’s just on the side of the road and could get into traffic, maybe we could come out and relocate it to the river bottoms or something like that. Just make sure we’re leaving the wildlife be, and make sure you’re calling the correct agency to chat about that.”

All humans do – KILL KILL KILL. They couldn’t care less not that they killed this innocent baby fawn, but they couldn’t care less about the heartbreak and trauma it caused to the family that loved and cared about this baby!!!
Unbelievable!!! People would rather kill than help!!! These police abs wildlife people are full of shit! They’re the first to kill any wildlife: raccoons, bears and even a baby deer! I hope they all DIE!!!
Horrific
A baby
What harm was it
Why not take to wildlife rehab center
Nope easier to just shoot it!
Totally barbaric and unacceptable
Same to those responsible.
Those conservation officers are full of shit – they simply don’t want people to get attached to wildlife they rescue because they don’t want people to care about the animals and turn against hunting. That’s what their jobs depend on: people enjoying to kill.
If you rescue a fawn or ANY wild animal, make sure your neighbors don’t see it because every conservation bastard will kill it. You can count on the fact that some creep will report you.
Best to take it to a wildlife rehabber.
I looked up P’Nuts law and that is for New York only, so Idaho needs to do a law and get this fish and game murderers to stop killing Idaho animals. I thought Trump made P’Nuts law for the nation. Look it up Contact the white house.
Trump never did ANYTHING for animals – or people. Man never ever had a PET and his kids are trophy hunters.
That PACT law that he signed merely extended already existing state laws – somebody must have told him to throw a sop to animal lovers because he would NEVER have thought of doing this himself – he didn’t draft it himself either.
Trump has done nothing but TAKE AWAY protections for virtually every kind of wildlife and has done absolutely NOTHING for horses either. In fact, in his first term, the very first bill on his desk to be signed as new president was to protect Tennessee Walking Horses from the horrible torture their owners are allowed to do to them to make them step high (acid, chains, nails in the hoof) and he THREW THE BILL OUT. YEARS of hard work from horse lovers down the drain.
He is no animal lover.
Why don’t people mind their own damn business?? That’s the question. That poor baby fawn didn’t need to die! Horrific!!
Once again conservation officers failing to do the right thing for the animal. The fawn deserved a much better outcome. Thank you to the kind family who cared. Unfortunately conservation officers didn’t do the same.
I agree with you 100%!
