Houston, TX – Dozens of cats cared for at a Houston, Texas, sanctuary are in need of homes after the non-profit organization announced that it is closing its doors. Dr. Beverly Harper’s sanctuary, Adopt-a-Cat, cites a lack of operating funds as the reason for their door closure.
Harper tells ABC 13 News, “People don’t have the money that they had. They’re doing things like getting rid of the trees in their yard.” Adding, “I’m a realist in that I know everything ends.”
The group is no longer accepting incoming cats but plans to care for those in their custody until they all find homes. As word gets out, adoptions are on the rise. On Sunday, the agency said,
It has been a whirlwind 24 hours here at Adopt A Cat, and it is all thanks to the love and care of our community!!! Today almost a dozen cats found forever homes, and we could not be more ecstatic!!
People have been stopping by to leave donations as well. You can visit Adopt-A-Cat’s website at this link and find them on Facebook here.
