Peachtree City, GA – Flat Creek Floyd, a beloved and cherished member of the Fayette County community, has died after being struck by a car. According to local authorities, Floyd was attempting to cross State Road 74 Friday morning when a car hit him – the driver did not stop.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of the beloved gator, who was estimated to be 40 to 50 years of age:
With heavy hearts, we share the news that Flat Creek Floyd—the cherished alligator known by our community—has passed away. Floyd was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the highway. First responders and local wildlife experts did all they could to care for Floyd, but his injuries were too severe.
Floyd was a figure of Flat Creek. While he brought some people fear, he was a joy for many when he was spotted in the wild. Please let Floyd’s passing be a reminder to stay alert while driving, and look out for wildlife. Rest easy, Floyd!

At approximately 1:30 in the morning, Floyd was attempting to cross Highway 74 near Whilshire Publix. Floyd was struck by a motor vehicle that left the scene of the collision. As a result of his injuries and after consulting with medical personnel, it was determined that the best course of action was euthanasia. Though Floyd lived near a neighborhood, he managed to peacefully coexist with residents – living much of his life below a small bridge on State Road 74 reports Fox Local News.
