New York City, New York – This week, a 16-year-old horse named Deniz collapsed and died while pulling a carriage in Central Park. According to sources, the horse was pulling a carriage with two people when he collapsed on Tuesday evening. Deniz was on his last tour of the night when tragedy struck around 7:30 p.m.
It is unclear what caused the horse’s sudden death. His body will undergo a necropsy at Cornell University to determine the cause of death.
Deniz’s death has sparked renewed calls from animal welfare agencies and animal lovers for an end to the horse-drawn carriage industry. Their message is gaining traction as the city confronts yet another seemingly preventable loss. Whether city leaders will act this time remains an open question, but pressure for reform is rising.

All of you people need a bit of horse education. #1 a 16 year old is generally quite able to work(carriage horses are not overworked and the trade is heavily regulated), This horse looks to be in good weight and muscle and looks well cared for. A horse (or human or other animal) can drop dead of heart attack’stroke.etc without warning even standing in a pasture. Interestingly enough, the push in New York to ban the carriage horses is fueled by a property developer who wants the land their stable is on. Lastly, just what do you think will happen to these horses once their livelihood is gone? most sanctuaries are full and horses are expensive to care for. Most of the displaced carriage horses will be at risk for going to auction an being purchased by kill buyers to be shipped out of the country.

These stupid carriage rides in NYC need to STOP NOW! Too many horses have suffered from the harsh conditions they have to endure in this greedy activity. Please put a stop to these carriage rides. The streets of NYC are not for horses pulling silly people in carriages.

Put an end to the barbaric carriage industry. Those involved in it are lazy scum making their money off the work of an animal. Those horses want no part of walking city streets. Someone make this stop. Bless every horse subjected to this. They deserve to be freed from the torture.

I believe this is how the ASPCA was founded. Henry Bergh was inspired to establish the organization after witnessing the brutal treatment of work animals while serving in Russia, and visiting the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in London. He drafted a charter to incorporate the society, which was officially passed into law by the New York State Legislature, making it the first humane animal-welfare organization in North America on April 10, 1866. And yet this happens???? What the hell!! The owner of this poor horse should not be aloud to own another animal EVER!!!
On a side note, it was the A.S.P.C.A. who started a child rights group, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, after learning of a child whose mother attacked her with scissors.

A 16 year old horse had absolutely no business pulling a carriage on concrete in all sorts of weather. NO ANIMAL (HORSE, DONKEY, OXEN, ETC) SHOULD BE SUBJECTED TO CARTING PEOPLE AROUND FOR THEIR PLEASURE. Some traditions are so archaic and causes so much abuse to animals it’s not funny. Why do we continue to subject animals for our entertainment and pleasure? Greed is too great and ignorance persists. It’s time to educate the public amd tourists the inhumane costs of animal entertainment. These are modern times that require change in attitude, using common sense, and asking questions for transparency. If there is no transparency don’t pay for it! Ask ourselves these questions: if I pay for this service does this harm anyone or living being? Am I contributing to a local, regional or national business that has transparency and is respectful of live and our living environment? Do I really need this service? Are there alternatives that are less harmful to others? Is this education or is this necessary for learning about wildlife environments? We ought to be teaching our children to utilise critical thinking skills, ask important questions, and instill qualities of respect and support of animal welfare, natural environment protection, and wildlife observation. To ignore these vital learning tools just exacerbates ignorance and convience at the cost of animals’ welfare.
