Kansas City, Missouri – This week, amidst a brutal snowstorm, someone abandoned a caged dog on a Kansas City sidewalk. The dog’s distressed barks caught the attention of an elderly man who reached out to the KC Pet Project shelter for help.
The animal welfare agency explained how Angel, one of their officers, jumped into action:
Both gates to the shelter were frozen shut due to the extreme weather, but Angel didn’t hesitate. She climbed into her own vehicle, navigating icy roads and near-zero visibility for almost an hour to reach the dog.
Angel describes the dog’s obvious relief and gratitude for being saved:
“When I got there, I could see her shivering, but when she saw me, her tail wagged so hard it shook the crate. I wrapped her in towels, cranked the heat in my car, and told her she was safe now.”
The abandoned pup was taken back to the shelter to be warmed up, and the good Samaritan who made the call for help was informed that she was safe. The agency said:
As Angel drove back to the shelter, she called the man who had reported the situation to let him know the dog was safe. When expressing his gratitude, he even got a little choked up and shared how he believed a divine intervention woke him up to save her.
Adding, “The dog is now safe at our shelter, warm and comfortable.”
