Wolfe County, Kentucky – A dog who was repeatedly bitten by a copperhead snake was rescued on Monday afternoon. According to the Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team, the golden retriever was in distress, prompting a 911 call for help.
The Search & Rescue team recounted the frightening situation:
Today at 1:00 p.m., WCSART received a 911 call for a dog in distress near Turtle Back Arch off Rock Bridge Road. The dog was unable to walk under its own power and swelling was appearing on his back legs. The team carried in our stokes basket to meet up with the owners who had carried the canine on their back for nearly 1 mile on their own.
One of the rescue team members, a vet tech, administered Benadryl to the golden retriever before the carryout began. The dog was loaded into his owner’s vehicle after the team made their way out of the wilderness area. The dog, named Sasha, was transported to a veterinary hospital in Lexington.
According to subsequent social media posts, Sasha was provided with two treatments of anti-venom which helped decrease the swelling in his legs. The bites left Sasha in “considerable pain” but he was able to return home to recuperate.
According to his family, he will need further treatments. Get well soon Sasha!
