Dallas, TX – On Thursday, the Dallas Police arrested a man suspected of taking two emperor tamarin monkeys from the Dallas Zoo. According to the authorities, 24-year-old Davion Irvin was booked into the Dallas County Jail on five counts of animal cruelty.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department said that tips from the public led to Irvin’s arrest at the Dallas Aquarium near animal exhibits.
The tamarin monkeys were reported missing from the zoo on Monday. The monkeys, Bella and Finn, were found safe on Tuesday in an abandoned house in Lancaster. One of the monkeys was located in a closet of the home.
There have been multiple suspicious incidents at the Dallas Zoo since the start of the year, including the death of an endangered vulture named Pin who was found dead in his enclosure. Officials are unsure if the events are related.
