Preble County, OH – A woman has been arrested for abandoning a malnourished beagle puppy in an intersection in Preble County. According to a news release from the Preble County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received on December 27 about an abandoned beagle pup, in a plastic crate, at the intersection of Verona Road and Sonora Road.
The news release describes how deputies found the pup:
Deputies located the crate, sitting on its top, with the dog inside. On this particular day, it was 25 degrees outside.
Deputies could see that the pup was weak and “could barely move.” The deputies rushed the puppy to an emergency veterinarian where an exam revealed: “that the dog was approximately 22 weeks old and was found to be malnourished, very thin, suffered from decreased muscle loss, and was dehydrated.”
The investigation led to the arrest of Kayla Rae Brown, age 26, of Lewisburg, Ohio. She was arrested on January 30th at her residence. She is charged with the following crimes in Eaton Municipal Court:
Cruelty To Animals, a 5th-degree felony
Cruelty To Animals, a 1st-degree misdemeanor
Cruelty to Animals, a 2nd-degree misdemeanor
Falsification, a 1st-degree misdemeanor
Brown appeared in Eaton Municipal Court on Tuesday; her bond has been set at $25,085.00 cash.
There are unconfirmed reports that Kayla Brown has ties with a rescue group.
