Ocala, Florida – A Florida woman was booked into the Marion County Jail after abandoning her two dogs in an empty residence. According to sources, 36-year-old Stephanie Delcastillo moved out of her home on Southwest 21st Place in Ocala, leaving two Cane Corso dogs inside.
The starving dogs were noticed by a lawn care worker who contacted the authorities. Deputies found two emaciated dogs in the house, which was strewn with feces and urine. The dogs were taken in by Marion County Animal Services, and one dog was found to be so malnourished that humane euthanasia was the only option. The other dog had a body score of 1 on a scale of 10.
Delcastillo stated that she was going through a divorce and moved out of the house after her estranged husband stopped paying the utilities. The man had been away on business since May. Neighbors told the authorities that the house had been vacant for “weeks” before the dogs were discovered.
Delcastillo is facing two counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
