Canton, OH – A young puppy, just six-to-eight weeks of age, died after being left in a parked car for nearly two hours when the outside temperature climbed to the 90s. According to WKYC News, officers with the Hartville Police Department found 49-year-old Tawana Cox sitting in a Toyota Corolla, holding a dead puppy, on July 28.
Surveillance video from the Hartville Thrift Shoppe showed Cox and family members entering the store around 1 p.m. and not returning to the car until nearly 3:00 p.m. Cox told officers she just got the puppy the night before and she claimed it appeared to have health problems.
The deadly incident resulted in a warrant for Cox’s arrest on August 12. She was booked into jail on a felony count of cruelty to animals and one count of falsification, a misdemeanor. She has already been released from custody.
