After receiving a complaint about conditions at the residence, officers went to investigate.

The release states:

Upon arrival, officers noticed two dogs without access to clean water and proper shelter, as well as numerous cats inside the residence. Several of the cats were suffering from various medical ailments. The two dogs and three kittens requiring immediate medical attention were seized and transported to the Craven-Pamlico Animal Services Center for veterinarian assessment. Due to the severity of the medical issues, one of the kittens had to be euthanized.

Adding:

Further investigation by Animal Protective Services revealed that the owner of the residence was not currently residing in the home.

The owner is facing charges for animal cruelty and failure to vaccinate; she surrendered the animals who are now in the care of the Craven-Pamlico Animal Services Center.

Also, for the abusive, neglectful criminal (ir)responsible to be convicted on every single charge applicable, and for Justice to be swift.
