Menands, New York – Earlier this week, a puppy died of hypothermia after being abandoned outside an animal shelter in frigid conditions. According to multiple sources, the puppy was left outside the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in a box and by the time he was found, the cold temperature had taken its toll.
Police say 62-year-old Brigitte Gaston left the puppy outside of the shelter building without telling anyone. She was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of abandonment of animals.

The shelter described how the puppy, dubbed Carlos, was found on Monday, writing:
On the morning of January 12, in freezing temperatures, a tiny puppy was abandoned at MHHS.
The team member who found him wrapped him in care and named him Carlos after musician Carlos Santana.
Carlos was rushed into our veterinary team’s care. They fought to raise his body temperature and save his life. He couldn’t stand. He was soaked in urine. Still, he tried, even offering a few gentle, grateful kisses.
Our team did everything possible, but Carlos came to us far too late. Within hours, he passed away.
As reported by People, Gaston has been released and is due back in court at a later date.

I agree with other comments- it should be a felony as the poor pup froze to death! I would have taken it!
Jail time, fines, pay for vet, never have an animal
Why is it a misdemeanor charge?? that was murder & that sweet puppy froze to death what a POS!
Should receive capital punishment. Let the perp freeze to death. Waste of oxygen.
