New Kent County, Virginia -An injured dog, with a wire wrapped tightly around her neck, has received an outpouring of support from the community. The dog, dubbed Maude, is pregnant and she was discovered on Eltham Road, near the intersection of New Kent Hwy over the weekend – on Monday, she was trapped and taken to a veterinarian for care.
Initially, the authorities believed Maude was a victim of animal cruelty, but further investigation led to a different theory about how she became wrapped in cable wire. On Tuesday, the New Kent Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection agency explained:
Maude is still hospitalized and has a very long road ahead. After further investigation and tips from members of our community, we believe Maude may have been the victim of a cable snare trap —a device used for trapping wildlife that tightens like a zip tie as an animal struggles.
Based on her injuries, we believe Maude may have suffered with this cable around her neck for some time. The pain she endured is heartbreaking. Our team is doing everything possible to save her, but at this time, she is not out of the woods.
Thanking donors for stepping up to help with her ongoing veterinary expenses:
Thank you SOOOOO much to everyone who has donated! We have reached our goal and even have extra for any future medical expenses Maude may have. She is quite literally.. covered for life!! The support from our New Kent community, Virginia community, and across America has been insane!!

The person whom did this to this dog needs to sit in jail. Thank goodness she was rescued.
A cable snare trap is serious animal abuse no matter who the victim is whether wildlife or companion animals. Those things should be removed from this planet. Disgusting “humans.” I hope beautiful Maude recovers completely and goes on to have a beautiful life.
Horrible! No owner to be found? Only scum would dump a dog or let it go lost without inquiry. As far as those traps, if I ever find them I smash them to bits. Thank you to the public for caring for this poor animal.
